Lip Lifting

What is lip lifting?

The operation of shortening the distance between the vermillion border of the upper lip (where the red area of the lip merges with the skin) and the base of the nasal columella (the soft tissue that separates the nostrils) is called lip lifting. As a result of this operation, the tissue above the lip is pulled towards the nose, making the upper lip look more lifted and thicker.

How is it applied?

Lip lifting is a quick operation performed under general anesthesia. In consultation before the procedure, the lip structure is examined by a plastic surgery specialist.

A pattern in the shape of a gullwing is drawn between the bottom of the nose and the upper lip. The tissue is removed with the operation, and the upper and lower tissues are brought closer and sutured.

The time for suture removal is determined according to the thread preferred in the surgery. The procedure usually takes 15-20 minutes, and after a few days, one can quickly return to their social life.

For what purpose is it preferred?

• To reduce the distance, especially in people who have extended the distance between the base of the nose and the lip after aging,
• To remove structural upper lip lenght
• To eliminate deformations that have formed after trauma.

To whom can it be applied?

It can be applied to people with a standard midface skeletal system and dental sequence.

To whom it is not applicable?

It is not preferred in individuals with apparent upper gingiva.

How long do the results last?

The mouth area tends to be closed with a double-layered muscle group. This is an important defense mechanism. Therefore, the effectiveness of the process is determined by this muscle group and the distance of the treated tissue. Although the upper lip seems to be significantly lifted at first, it returns to normal over time.

What should be considered before the operation?

The surgical area shouldn’t be infected (herpes, warts and acne). If other procedures have recently been applied to the face area, it may be necessary to wait for a while.

What should be considered after the operation?

Mouth movements should be done slowly for 2-3 days after the process, and the tissue shouldn’t be forced. Movements such as whistling and lip-puckering should be avoided for a week. The scar should be protected from the sun for a couple of months.
